[ARCHIVED] City Clerk Announces Sufficiency of Signatures on Proposed Specific Plan Initiative

City Clerk Pamela Aguilar announced today that the number of verified signatures filed by proponents of a proposed ballot initiative aimed at revising Menlo Park’s El Camino Real/Downtown Specific Plan has achieved sufficiency.

The City Clerk will prepare and present to the City Council a Certification of Sufficiency report confirming the results of the signature examination at their next meeting, scheduled for Tuesday, July 15, 2014, at 7:00 pm, in the City Council Chambers at 701 Laurel Street in Menlo Park, CA.

The State Elections Code provides that the City Council must take one of the following actions following the City Clerk’s transmittal of the Certificate of Sufficiency:

  1. Adopt the proposed ordinance without alteration; or
  2. Determine to place the ordinance on the ballot for the November 4, 2014, Statewide General Election.
An independent analysis of potential impacts was ordered by the City Council at its March 18, 2014, meeting, and is expected to be presented to the City Council on July 15, 2014, in order to inform the Council’s deliberation.

The City has also created an informational web page about the proposed ballot measure and its intended changes to the Specific Plan. This page summarizes the ballot measure’s primary elements, and clarifies how the Specific Plan currently addresses key issues of community importance. It provides information on the currently-proposed developments, and offers a review of the Specific Plan and the public process through which it was developed. That informational web page is accessible from
