The City of Menlo Park plans to honor the 2018 CIF Division 3-AA State Champion Menlo-Atherton Bears football team with a parade and celebration Saturday, January 12, 2018. The parade will tentatively start at 10 a.m.
“The City of Menlo Park couldn’t be more proud of our state champions, the Menlo-Atherton Bears! In discussing it with the high school, we agreed what better way to celebrate the football team’s first ever state championship, than with a parade. What an opportunity to come together, celebrate their achievement, build community and have good old-fashioned fun. We invite all Menlo Park residents to join us for the festivities!” said Mayor Ray Mueller.
The parade will start from the Caltrain Station parking lot at Santa Cruz Avenue and Merrill Street, traveling down Santa Cruz Avenue. The procession will pause near the intersection of Santa Cruz Avenue and Chestnut Street for a performance by the M-A Cheer and Dance teams. The route will then resume down Santa Cruz Avenue before turning south on Crane Street to Menlo Avenue, then continuing back on Menlo Avenue to Alma Street. The parade will follow Alma Street to the south end of Burgess Park eventually terminating near the baseball fields off Burgess Drive.
The parade will end with a rally at Burgess Park starting at approximately 11 a.m. Speakers including school, team and elected officials will take the stage to honor our championship team.
All fans who plan to attend the rally are encouraged to park in the SRI parking lot off Laurel Street.
Travel delays can be expected on the date of the event, and implementation of additional road closures and lane restrictions may be necessary during the event to maintain public safety. Motorists are advised to avoid the area by using alternate routes, and allow for extra driving time when traveling near downtown or in the vicinity of Burgess Park between 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Street closures are expected to be progressive and officials hope to reopen and return streets to normal operation as quickly as possible.
