On Sunday, August 26, at approximately 8 p.m., the Menlo Park Police Department was notified of a traffic crash that had occurred earlier between 6:30 and 6:40 p.m. The victim, a 20 month old, had been riding a toy vehicle on a private driveway in the 200 block of Willow Rd. A 26 year old, male relative of the child, was backing his gray Ford Fusion on the driveway, did not see and struck the child. This collision occurred 30 feet away from the roadway on private property.
Family transported the injured victim to the hospital. Hospital staff called police to inform them of the incident. Officers went out to the residence and hospital to conduct their investigation. The driver is cooperating with the investigation; drugs and alcohol are not a factor in the incident. The child is in critical condition at the Lucille Packard Children’s Hospital, but is expected to survive.
