Update: Police looking for suspect in man with a gun incident

Jose Gutierrez

On Feb. 24, 2018, at approximately 11 p.m., Menlo Park Police responded to the 1100 block of Sevier regarding a subject seen firing an assault rifle type weapon in the backyard of the residence. According to witnesses, the subject was upset due to a loud party next door. No one was injured.

Upon arrival, officers set up a perimeter around the residence and attempted to contact occupants inside the subject’s home. Officers were unable to obtain a response from anyone who might be in the home. According to witness accounts of the incident, it was believed that a male subject may still be in the home armed with an illegal firearm.

At approximately 8:57 a.m on Feb. 25, the San Mateo South County Regional Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team, after Menlo Park Police secured a search warrant, made entry into the residence at 1122 Sevier Avenue in Menlo Park and conducted a search for the suspect in this incident. Their search failed to locate the suspect, but did locate significant evidence that a shooting had occurred. After securing the residence, the SWAT team turned the scene over to Menlo Park Police Detectives who are currently processing it and collecting evidence.

Suspect José Gutierrez with a date of birth of 1/12/82 is currently wanted by the Menlo Park Police Department in relation to this shooting. He is considered armed and dangerous as the rifle used is still outstanding. He is associated to a silver Honda Accord with a license plate of 5ZCK527.

This is still an active and ongoing investigation by the Menlo Park Police Department and there is no further information available at this time. Anyone with information about this case or the suspect’s whereabouts is asked to call the Menlo Park Police Department at 650-330-6300.
