San Mateo County Poet Laureate Aileen Cassinetto helps us break the silence surrounding suicide and mental illness, along with StarVista trauma specialists

Whether in poetry, spoken word, or music, let's bring our voices together to break the silence surrounding suicide and mental illness. Share your own words, or listen to others.

San Mateo County Poet Laureate Aileen Cassinetto will emcee this affirming event in observance of Mental Health Awareness Month. We’ll also be joined by trauma specialists from StarVista.

About Mental Health Awareness Month
This May, the Menlo Park Library is partnering with San Mateo County Health and other organizations throughout the area in celebrating Mental Health Awareness Month (MHAM). Join us in the effort to increase awareness and inspire action to reduce stigma against those with mental health and substance use conditions.

About Aileen Cassinetto
As 2019-2020 San Mateo County Poet Laureate, Aileen Cassinetto's role is to elevate poetry among San Mateo County residents and to celebrate the literary arts by making poetry more accessible to people in their everyday lives. Cassinettois the author of The Pink House of Purple Yam Preserves and Other Poems,Traje de Boda,The Art of Salamat,B & O Blues, and Tweet. Her work is on permanent display at the San Francisco Public Library as part of the Hay(na)ku Poetry Exhibit. She is the publisher of Paloma Press, an independent literary press established in 2016, which has released 12 books to date.
