Summer Puppetry Festival: The King's Problem

Sunday, June 28, 2020

This week, we host a fun show for everyone, with a huge cast of puppet characters!

This summer, Menlo Park celebrates puppetry in its many forms, by hosting a series of puppet shows by a variety of performers from throughout the Bay Area and beyond!

This week, the illustrious Puppet Company presents a show full of stories based on India's Panchatantra tales. Enjoy classical and Bollywood-style music, as you meet characters including:
  • An honest woodcutter who befriends a forest fairy
  • A crow and fox faced with an evil serpent
  • A farmer and his five lazy sons
  • A king who is tormented by mice
  • A not-so-smart snake charmer
  • A performing elephant
About Randal Metz
Puppet Company founder Randal Metz has been producing imaginative family entertainment for close to 50 years. In addition to holding degrees in Theater and Children’s Theater from San Francisco State University, Metz says he has been trained “by The Muppets, Lewis Mahlmann, Bob Baker and have worked for Disneyland and circuses.”  For over 20 years, Metz has been the Puppet Theater Director at Children’s Fairyland in Oakland, but he’s been with the popular family park for much longer than that. In 2016, Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf declared a "Randal Metz Day,” in honor his long and illustrious career.

This free event received partial funding support from the Friends of the Menlo Park Library.
