The Bystander Moment: Transforming Rape Culture at its Roots

Monday, July 15, 2019

Can a bystander have a positive role to play in changing the culture norms that lead to gender violence? This documentary explores that idea.

How did we get to #MeToo? This film explores the role of friends, teammates, classmates, and co-workers in perpetuating sexual harassment, assault, and other forms of gender violence.

The screening will be followed by a discussion facilitated by the staff of Rape Trauma Services.

About Confronting Violence: Improving Women's Lives
From July 8-August 17, the Menlo Park Main Library will host a special traveling exhibition produced by the National Library of Medicine.

Activists and reformers in the United States have long recognized the harm of domestic violence and sought to improve the lives of women who were battered. Our temporary exhibition Confronting Violence, Improving Women’s Lives explores the developments during latter half of the 20th century, when nurses took up the call. Beginning in the late 1970s, nurses were in the vanguard as they pushed the larger medical community to identify victims, adequately respond to their needs, and work towards the prevention of domestic violence.

Visit the Main Library to experience the interactive exhibition panels, and join us for our series of interrelated programming.
