Storytelling Festival: Olga Loya

Wednesday, November 15, 2017

Expert storyteller Olga Loya will delight you with stories from Latin America!

Throughout November, the Menlo Park Library Storytelling Festival is bringing you a variety of acclaimed professional tellers. Please join us as we present the wonderful Olga Loya!

In her bilingual performance of tales from Latin America, Olga will invite you to celebrate the magic of los cuentos (stories) with folk tales about self-image, personal stories about discovering of one's own culture, myths from long ago that help us to understand the present, and tales about learning about our own strength. Olga says it's all about "learning about the Latino culture as you learn about yourself."

About Olga Loya
Olga Loya, a Latina storyteller, performance artist,  writer and teacher, uses a mix of Spanish and English to share traditional tales from Latin America, as well as stories from her own varied and colorful life growing up in East Los Angeles. Olga uses her voice, body, and sometimes music and dance, to draw her audience into the imaginative and surprising worlds of the tales she tells. She performs and teaches workshops at schools,
businesses, museums, and festivals across the U.S. and beyond. Olga was the recipient of the National Network of Storytellers 2013 Oracle Award for The Circle of Excellence.

About Storytelling
  • Storytelling is telling stories--without using a book
  • It's an ancient art form that predates libraries, and books, and writing.
  • Traditional-style storytelling creates unique images in the mind of each listener
According to the National Storytelling Network, "storytelling is the interactive art of using words and actions to reveal the elements and images of a story while encouraging the listener’s imagination. In storytelling, the listener imagines the story."

This program is made possible thanks to funding from the Menlo Park Friends of the Library.
