The Arbor Day Foundation has recognized The City of Menlo Park as a 2017 Tree City USA. This is the City’s 19th consecutive year as a Tree City, an indication of Menlo Park’s commitment to effective urban forest management. In addition, the Arbor Day Foundation recognized the City of Menlo Park with a Growth Award for the fifth year in row. The Growth Award demonstrates an environmental improvement and higher level of tree care. The Growth Award highlighted two new initiatives introduced in 2017. The first is the City’s new maintenance program of all trees growing at City parks and facilities. Over a 5 year span, over 6,000 trees will be inventoried and pruned. The second initiative was a tree planting event held in the Belle Haven neighborhood. In partnership with the local organization, Canopy, 19 new trees were planted on public and private property by volunteers. Plans are underway for an upcoming Arbor Day tree planting this spring, please stay tuned for more details.
