The City received 29 applications for the Advisory Districting Committee before the January 8, 2016, deadline. The City Clerk’s Office is now vetting those applications in preparation for the next step, which is committee member selection.
At the January 16, 2018, City Council meeting, the City Clerk will select the first three members of the committee through a random draw from the eligible pool of candidates. Those three members will then meet sometime between Thursday, January 18, and Saturday, January 20, to select the remaining six committee members. That meeting will be publicly noticed and open to public comment.
After all nine seats on the committee are filled, the first meeting of the full committee is scheduled for Monday, January 22, 2018, which will again be publicly noticed and open to public comment. This will be the beginning of a roughly one month process before the committee makes its recommendation on proposed five and six member district maps and related election sequencing.
Any recommended maps will be published for a minimum of seven days before a City Council public hearing to receive additional public comment.
