With 27 participants, over 180 votes cast, and five judges to tie it all together, the first annual Holiday Display Contest was an enormous success. Throughout the month of December, businesses lit up their storefronts and lobbies with festive lights and decoration. Menlo Integrative Training/CrossFit Five Branches pulled away victorious as viewers appreciated their unique elements including kettle bell shaped ornaments and Santa himself lifting weights. When presented with their prize, Sara Gurka of CrossFit Five Branches shared her excitement and ways she is already planning her display for next year’s contest. The Holiday Display Contest was a collaborative effort by the City of Menlo Park and the Menlo Park Chamber of Commerce to promote the visibility of local businesses and shopping downtown during the holiday season. The voting poll, featured on the City of Menlo Park Special Events Facebook page, was opened during the Holiday Tree Lighting Dec. 1 and remained open until Dec. 18. Photos of all of the displays can be found on the Special Events Facebook page.
