The Arrillaga Family Recreation Center is focusing on the importance of unplugging from technology and destressing from responsibilities of our daily lives by providing programming to combat these negative effects. Meditation, stretching and other mind and body practices have been used for centuries to help activate natural relaxation responses, increase mental agility and concentration. A 2104 study, Meditation Programs for Psychological Stress and Well-being, found that meditation can decrease anxiety and depression in participants. Some people find that learning various techniques and practicing them with a group can be especially helpful with overall stress reduction as well providing motivation and accountability for continued practice. The Arrillaga Family Recreation Center offers numerous health and wellness opportunities to assist residents with relieving their stress. Winter Session classes at the Arrillaga Family Recreation Center resume Tuesday, Jan. 2. Come join us for an exciting free trial of our newest health and wellness class, Release, Renew & Reposture Jan. 10 (spots are limited and registration is required). Release, Renew & Reposture uses a combination of breath work, therapeutic touch and meditation to help release your connective tissue. You can also join us for the full class Wednesday evenings beginning Jan. 17. Other great classes we offer to improve stress reduction include: Yoga and Back Care Tuesday evenings, Gentle Yoga Wednesday mornings and Foundations of Mindfulness Practice Thursday evenings. Register in person at the Arrillaga Family Recreation Center or online today! You can find other exhilarating health, wellness and fitness classes we offer by reviewing our Activity Guide or online at: menlopark.org/registration.
