City Staff will be hosting a community meeting Wednesday, Oct. 25, at 7 p.m. in the Arrillaga Recreation Center (Elm Room) to discuss the proposed changes to the electric vehicle (EV) charger requirements. The proposed changes would potentially affect multifamily residential developments of five (5) or more units and all commercial developments in the City. CALGreen was the first state-adopted green building code in the nation and local jurisdictions have authority to adopt their own EV charger regulations beyond CALGreen requirements. In March 2017, the City Council adopted changes to the 2016 California Green Building Standards Code to increase the electric vehicle (EV) charger requirements in the LS, O and R-MU zoning districts. The proposed revisions to the regulations are in response to the City Council’s interest in seeing  an increase in the EV charger requirements and having the regulations applicable to properties citywide. Interested members of the public are encouraged to attend the community meeting and provide input on the proposed changes. In the coming months, staff will be presenting the proposed ordinance amendment to the Planning Commission (tentatively scheduled for December 2017)  followed by review and action by the City Council (tentatively scheduled for January 2018), who is the final decision-making body.
