City Manager Alex D. McIntyre is happy to announce the appointment of Rebecca Lucky, (formerly Rebecca Fotu) as the new Sustainability Manager. Rebecca previously served as the City’s Environmental Programs Manager until June 2014. She will start in August.

Ms. Lucky is returning to the City of Menlo Park after a three-year hiatus with New Zealand’s National Government. She was a Senior Policy Analyst at the Ministry for the Environment, and worked on freshwater management, Resource Management Act Reforms, Marine Protected Areas Reform, and permitting standards for marine farms.

During her first stint with the City, Ms. Lucky worked on the City’s Climate Action Plan (CAP), including reduction target options and strategies. She also instituted the Reusable Bag and Polystyrene Food Ware Ordinance currently in place, and was innovative in increasing community participation in water and energy conservation programs. She also spearheaded cost saving solar installations at City facilities and secured grant funding for electric vehicle charging stations.

Ms. Lucky said “I am thrilled to return to this progressive City again with the most knowledgeable, passionate and engaged community I know. New Zealand was a great and unforgettable adventure both personally and professionally, and has given me a deeper appreciation of how solutions to large-scale complex environmental problems rely heavily on collaboration and local efforts.”

She is a mother to two little girls, who in her spare time loves visiting local art galleries, museums and second hand shops. She is an avid runner and recently completed two half marathons in New Zealand, and hopes to run in a full marathon soon. 

 “We are excited to have Rebecca back. Her enthusiasm is contagious and she brings a rare dedication to public service, which has helped and will continue to propel Menlo Park forward as a regional leader in sustainability.” said McIntyre.
