The City Council
recently approved the purchase of the police department's first electric motorcycle. The new motorcycle will be used citywide by our traffic enforcement team in conjunction with the fleet’s existing Harley Davidson motorcycles. With a 'fuel' cost of about a penny per mile, and maintenance cost reductions of up to 85%, the Zero motorcycle will save the department both time and money. The motorcycle is highly maneuverable and ideal for patrolling a diverse range of areas: urban centers, city streets, tight quarters, parks, beaches and dirt trails. The 100% electric powertrain is nearly silent, exhaust free, produces minimal heat, and has instant torque from zero rpm.
