On March 4 Sophie Simons competed in the Pot of Gold Gymnastics Meet. This meet was the last opportunity to qualify for the State Gymnastics competition where the top finishers have the opportunity to participate at the national level in Regionals. Sophie had her best uneven parallel bar routine ever and scored a 9.05, placing third. She also placed second on vault and third on balance beam and floor exercise landing her third all-around in the competition and securing her place at States. Sophie has continued to improve all season and is an inspiration to her team mates and the children in the developmental program. We all wish her luck.
In the last 10 years,
Menlo Park Gymnastics had 10 girls qualify for States. Last year we had our first female gymnasts qualify for regionals, Sophie Simons and Alexa Thomasas. Sophie was second on bars and fourth in the all-around at Regionals in Level 7. Sophie went on to be the Level 7 State Bar Champion at the State Competition.
