On Feb. 7, 2017, the City Council discussed their 2017 Work Plan, including consideration of a one-year trial to combine the current Bicycle Commission and Transportation Commission to form a Complete Streets Commission. Council approved this merger at its Feb. 28 meeting.

The City is embarking on a major effort over the next 18 months to prepare a Transportation Master Plan. In order to ensure a successful process, the consolidation of the Bicycle Commission and Transportation Commission will be a helpful tool in creating efficiencies by channeling efforts to a single commission that can be a conduit for the community engagement on transportation issues.

The Complete Streets Commissions’ responsibilities will include:
  • Coordination of motor vehicle, bicycle, transit and pedestrian transportation facilities,
  • Advising City Council on ways to encourage pedestrian and bicycle safety and accessibility for the City supporting the goals of the General Plan,
  • Coordination on providing a citywide safe routes to school plan,
  • Coordination with regional transportation systems.

The City Clerk’s office is currently recruiting for two seats on the Complete Streets Commission. Applications are due by the close of business April 3.

The new Complete Streets Commission will hold its first meeting in May 2017.
