Jan. 18 flood protection project meeting set

Posted on January 17, 2017 at 2:57 pm by Clay Curtin

The San Francisquito Creek Joint Powers Authority will be holding a joint scoping meeting with the Army Corps of Engineers on Jan. 18, 2017, at 6:30 p.m. at the Laurel School Upper Campus located at 275 Elliott Drive. The organizers seek public input on flood protection options for the section of San Francisquito Creek between Highway 101 and El Camino Real in Menlo Park, East Palo Alto and Palo Alto. The project is being designed to protect communities from a flood event similar to the one that occurred in 1998.

The San Francisquito Creek Joint Powers Authority will develop a draft environmental impact report on the following five alternatives:
  • Alternative 1: No action
  • Alternative 2: Modify Pope-Chaucer Bridge and widen creek channel bottlenecks
  • Alternative 3: Construct one or more upstream detention basins
  • Alternative 4: Construct an underground bypass culvert
  • Alternative 5: Construct floodwalls along the channel

The project’s Notice of Preparation for the environmental impact report is available for review. Public comments are due by 5 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2017, and may be submitted to:
