Between October 4th and 5th, a coast live oak fell against the
Latham-Hopkins Gatehouse at 555 Ravenswood Avenue. It appears to have fallen slowly based on the small amount of damage it caused to the sunporch roof. The tree’s canopy appeared healthy and all of its limbs were intact with dark green foliage. However, the tree had basal decay that weakened the large anchoring roots and it was covered in thick ivy which hid any sign of decay at the base. The tree was removed and the wood reclaimed.
