Menlo Park started construction on two exciting bike improvement projects in early June. Crews installed four bike corrals in downtown as part of a project to convert unused hatched off areas into protected spaces for shoppers and visitors to park their bicycles. The increased bike parking spaces encourages biking and other travel modes besides cars. It also supports the City’s goal to reduce vehicle miles traveled and increase transportation by walking, bicycling and public transportation.
New green striping also started going into existing bike lanes throughout the City, with Middlefield Road between Willow Road and Ravenswood Avenue going in first, followed by Sand Hill Road between Interstate 280 and Santa Cruz Avenue. The green striping in high bike-vehicle conflict areas helps to increase bicycle awareness citywide.
Construction on both of these projects continues, so be on the lookout for more bike parking and green bike lanes in the weeks to come.
