Work commences Monday, March 21, to expand the efficiency and sorting capacity of the library's automated materials handling system. The project includes partial removal of an interior wall and re-configuring space to allow the addition of three more sorting bins. This requires dismantling and storing the current system. Library staff will be required to manually check in and sort approximately 46,000 items that are expected to be returned during the one-month construction period. Backroom work areas have been temporarily reconfigured as sorting areas and staff is ready for the challenge. Annually the automated materials handling system checks in and sorts over 497,000 items that are returned to the library.
