On Nov. 7, 2015, the City and RethinkWaste hosted a free paper shredding and electronic waste recycling event at the City’s corporation yard. Approximately 140 households participated bringing in a total of 5,600 lbs of electronics for recycling, including 32 televisions, 192 feet of fluorescent lighting tubes, 148 compact fluorescent and incandescent light bulbs and 65 lbs of batteries.
A week later, on Nov. 14, the City partnered with the Bay Area Water Supply & Conservation Agency on a “Designs in Landscape Architecture” workshop where a principal designer of Earthcare Landscaping taught 21 attendees about sustainable landscape design techniques and how to convert their lawns into drought-tolerant California native gardens. At the end of the workshop, attendees participated in a raffle to take home their very own drought-tolerant, California native plant. The City's Environmental Programs division will be hosting additional water-efficient landscape education classes year-round in 2016.
