[ARCHIVED] Local water supply temporarily switched away from Hetch Hetchy

The original item was published from October 23, 2015 5:51 pm to October 23, 2015 6:10 pm

On Oct. 11, 2015, the the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission shut down the Hetch Hetchy water supply in order to treat local sources as a test for future drought water supply and they plan to be back to normal operations by Nov. 16, 2015. Water from the Cherry Reservoir will be filtered at the Sunol Valley Water Treatment Plant. The Cherry Reservoir water has chemistry parameters similar to Hetch Hetchy water; however, some Menlo Park Municipal Water District customers may experience changes in both taste and odor during this time, although the water is safe to drink and meets all State and Federal drinking water regulations. MPMWD purchases all of its water from the SFPUC, whose water originates from spring snowmelt flowing down the Tuolumne River to storage in the Hetch Hetchy Reservoir
