The Police Department's Bicycle Patrol recently added four new 2014 Specialized Crave 29” hard tail mountain bikes with front
suspension, thanks to a generous donation by Facebook. The addition doubles the existing fleet of patrol bicycles. The Police Bicycle Patrol is a highly visible patrol unit that enhances community relations with officers working side-by-side with community members to reduce crime, prevent loss of property, stop personal injury, and promote a positive image of the department to both adults and children.
Bicycle Patrol Unit officers deploy in areas of the community where they are the most available to the general public. The team operates throughout the city ranging from the downtown, parking areas, roadways and the hilly and rough terrain of some of our parks. Due to the unique capabilities of police officers on bicycles, the bike team also assists regular patrol units at special events and during special details. The team consists of 11 core members who are responsible for the unit's ongoing operations.
Two of the bikes will operate out of the main station, with the other two housed at the new Belle Haven Neighborhood Service
Center & Substation located at 871 Hamilton Avenue.
Together, we're making Menlo Park a safer place for everybody to enjoy!
