Three members of the community development department's planning division recently attended the 2015 American Planning national conference held April 18-21, 2015, in Seattle, WA. The conference offered a variety of sessions on best practices, current trends, and innovations in the planning profession. A small sample of the sessions attended by Menlo Park staff included “Urbanization of the Tech Industry,” “Maintaining and Improving Zoning Codes,” “No Hard Copies; Creating Web-Based Plans,” “How Smaller Jurisdictions Create Affordable Housing,” “Placemaking in Silicon Valley,” and many others. Each session was led by leading practitioners from around the country and provided opportunities for learning, question and answer dialogues, and networking with other planners. These staff will be sharing information and experiences from the conference with others in the organization to help bring fresh planning ideas and insights to the Menlo Park community.
