Parks & Recreation Commission approves Menlo Swim & Sport pool facilities lease agreement extension

On February 25, 2015, the Parks and Recreation Commission reviewed the aquatics contractor annual report, which included a presentation from Tim Sheeper of Menlo Swim and Sport. The presentation was an important milestone, as the current aquatic facilities lease is set to expire in May 2016. The City Council will be completing a request for proposal process or a recommendation to renew or extend the current lease. The commission’s discussion included an overview of the RFP process, a lease extension versus a multi-month RFP process, review of the annual report and current contractor’s performance, and concluded with a question/answer session and preliminary discussion about potential terms of a new lease agreement. Specific terms discussed included length of contract, year-round operation of Belle Haven Pool and maintaining previous agreements to ensure community access for such groups as the SOLO swim team. On March 25, 2015, the commission received additional information from City staff and the pool contractor; received community feedback, and provided staff feedback on potential terms of any lease extension. After a lengthy discussion, the commission voted and unanimously approved staff’s recommendation to proceed in developing a term sheet for a potential extension of the aquatics facility lease agreement. The Commission will make a similar recommendation to the City Council as a consent item for their meeting scheduled for May 5, 2015.
