SamTrans, shuttle and parking changes in Belle Haven

Posted on June 21, 2021 at 7:54 pm by Clay Curtin

The construction of the Menlo Park Community Campus project that will incorporate the current Onetta Harris Community Center, Menlo Park Senior Center, Belle Haven Youth Center, Belle Haven Pool and branch library is now underway. Construction is expected to last two years until mid-2023. However, construction will require minor detours for SamTrans route 281 and the City of Menlo Park Crosstown Shuttle, along with some impacts to nearby on-street parking.

New construction site fencing is going up and will affect parking and bus services. Starting Monday, June 28, 2021, SamTrans route 281 will no longer turn into the Onetta Harris Community Center parking lot to loop around to its terminal. The last stop for route 281 will be at Market Place and Del Norte Avenue (in front of 205 Market Place). For the westbound return trips to the Stanford Shopping Center, route 281 will use Del Norte Avenue and Pierce Road to loop back to Newbridge Street, resulting in the temporary suspension of the westbound stops at Market Place and Del Norte Avenue by Karl E. Clark Park. For passengers normally using these stops, please board at the Market Place and Del Norte Avenue 281 terminal for trips toward Stanford Shopping Center. More information is available on SamTrans Route 281 webpage

Also starting Monday, June 28, 2021, the City of Menlo Park Crosstown Shuttle will no longer enter the Onetta Harris Community Center parking lot. The last stop/terminal for the Crosstown Shuttle will now be located on Terminal Avenue, near the corner of Del Norte Avenue, just in front of 150 Terminal Ave. There are no schedule changes for the shuttle, just a change for the shuttle’s final stop. Passengers may also use the free Crosstown Shuttle to get to the Menlo Park Senior Center’s temporary location at the Arrillaga Family Recreation Center, which is located a short walk from the shuttle’s Menlo Park Library stop. For more information, maps and schedules, please visit the Crosstown Shuttle webpage.

In order to facilitate the new layover locations for Route 281 and Crosstown Shuttle buses, temporary red curb and “No Parking” will be added. The temporary red curb installation should last two years during project’s construction and be removed once construction is completed and the buses return to their original terminals. For Market Place and Del Norte Avenue, 70 feet of red curb will be installed at the current SamTrans stop from the intersection to the first driveway. At Terminal Avenue and Del Norte Avenue, 40 feet of new red curb will be added from the existing 20 feet of red curb to the first driveway. The approval of this temporary red curb and “No Parking” restrictions will be considered at the July 14, 2021, Complete Streets Commission meeting
