April 10 property tax deadline extended to May 4, 2020

The April 10 property tax deadline has been extended to May 4, 2020, as all San Mateo County offices are closed to the public through May 3, 2020, per the orders of the Public Health Officer.

San Mateo Treasurer-Tax Collector Sandie Arnott released a statement April 6, 2020, announcing that due to the continued public health threat, offices would remain closed. She anticipates offices reopening on May 4, 2020, to be able to accept in-person payment of the 2nd installment of property tax payments, without penalty. Payments would have to be received before 5 p.m., May 4, 2020, to avoid penalty. You can read the full statement on the Tax Collector's website.

Payment of property taxes can be made using alternative methods, including mail and the drop box located on the exterior of 555 County Center, Redwood City, in addition to online payments.

It is not recommended to wait until May 4 to pay in person. Once the office reopens, long lines and proximity to others may continue to be a concern.
