While volunteering to pull out invasive plant species along the San Francisquito Creek at a Grassroots Ecology program, local Girl Scout Cadette Nathalie Auslander learned how invasive species are disrupting the original ecosystem of our local creeks.
After researching the risks and challenges due to invasive plants, she decided to spread the word among her Menlo Park neighbors as the focus of her Girl Scout Silver Award project.
Ms. Auslander created informational pamphlets and posters, which are now posted around Menlo Park. “I want to educate my community members about invasive plants to raise awareness and explain how they affect our local creek areas,” Nathalie said. “After I learned about this issue, I saw the need to let people know.”
