On Wednesday, January 14, 2015, the City of Menlo Park connected with 14 other public and private sector agencies in a Multi-Agency Coordinating System emergency preparedness exercise. The MACS drill presented a simulated scenario that involved multiple bombings, transit disruption, and active-shooter situations occurring across the southern portion of San Mateo County, but originating in Menlo Park. It provided the 60 participants the opportunity to practice resource allocation, incident prioritization, and inter-agency cooperation for large-scale emergencies and incidents. This was a good exercise to test the City’s emergency readiness in response to the complex challenges facing local officials during a real life emergency. This training will help participating agencies improve future responses by allowing officials to work in sync with their neighboring agencies.
