Our mission is to provide a safer city for all citizens through enforcement, education and engineering.
The traffic unit works with citizens and other branches of city, county and state government to identify problematic areas that create traffic hazards. In addition to enforcing traffic laws, the units responsibilities include investigating vehicle related accidents, including traffic homicide investigations.
We utilize various forms of speed measuring devices such as handheld Radar / Lidar units, in-car mounted moving radar units and speed signage boards. We emphasize enforcement in the following areas:
Speed trailer requests / traffic complaints
The Police Department has a portable speed measuring trailer that is capable of being placed on residential streets. This can be used as a traffic calming measure in the absence of a police officer being present during times of occurrence.
