This project entails conducting
an analysis of vehicle and pedestrian conflicts due to parking
at the intersection of Oak Avenue and Oak Knoll Lane and
an analysis of the parking on Middle Avenue at Nealon Park.
This project is a study only and will not involve construction
of any improvements identified in the study.
Oak Avenue and Oak Knoll Lane
The intersection of Oak Avenue and Oak Knoll Lane is located
in the vicinity of Oak Knoll Elementary School, which is
a Grade K-5 elementary school. In the Transportation Commission
project priority setting for Fiscal Year 2006-07, a Transportation
Commissioner expressed concern about the parking situation
at this intersection, which forces school children who bike
or walk to school to ride or walk in the traveled way, exposing
them to increased safety concerns. The Transportation Commission
eventually recommended a project to the City Council to
investigate the parking situation at this intersection and
formulate recommendations to address this traffic safety
concern. Subsequently, this project got approved by the
City Council to be part of the City's Transportation Division's
Project Priority for Fiscal Year 2006-07.
Nealon Park
On May 12, 2004, City staff received a letter from the Menlo-Atherton
Cooperative Nursery School, which cited that the current
parking configuration of the Nealon parking lot was causing
safety concerns involving Co-op school attendees. City staff
brought this parking issue to the Transportation Commission
on October 13, 2004 for its consideration. Subsequently,
this project got approved by the City Council to be part
of the City's Transportation Division's Project Priority
for Fiscal Year 2006-07.
On May 15, 2007, the City Council approved the installation of “No Stopping, 7:30 a.m. – 8:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.” signs
on the south side of the intersection of Oak Avenue and Oak Knoll Lane in front of 1875 and 1885 Oak Avenue.
On August 5, 2008, the City Council approved staff’s recommendation for existing parking lot
in front of Nealon Park to be re-striped to its existing configuration, with the addition of two disabled parking spaces.
