When Summer is over, it's time
to get ready for several months of rain, wind, and cold.
There are numerous sensible steps a homeowner can take to help
winterize or prepare for the change in the weather.
PREPARING
FOR THE WINTER: Residents
can take the following actions...
- Make sure rain gutters, downspouts,
and splash blocks are all in good working order
- Replace furnace filters to keep
your heating system efficient
- Add insulation stripping to
windows or doors as needed
- Sweep up the curb and gutter
area in front of your home
- Prepare or refresh a home based
emergency kit (drinking water, first aid kit, no cook canned
goods, hand can opener, a radio, flashlight, and extra batteries)
- Make sure your autos have proper
anti-freeze levels
- When Driving leave more distance
for safe breaking and make extra effort to see school children,
pedestrians, and autos
