2010 UWMP
Project Description
The State Department of Water Resources requires water districts to update their water plans every five years. Referred to as an Urban Water Management Plan (UWMP), it discusses water supply for the next 20 years and addresses water resources, supply, demand, reliability, shortages and distribution. Public input on the plan is encouraged.
Status
In January 2011, the City contracted with Winzler & Kelly to write its 2010 Urban Water Management Plan (UWMP) and to update its Water Shortage Contingency Plan (WSCP). A draft was published in May and a 30-day public comment period followed. Comments were incorporated into the final draft which was approved by City Council on June 14, 2011.
This project developed a complete 2010 UWMP which addresses changing conditions related to water availability and usage and ensures reliability of water for the next 20-years. The WSCP was also updated to re-evaluate and improve the program for equitable distribution of water during a shortage. The final documents contained recommendations for planning, program operation, and maintenance of the water distribution system.
