Bicycle Commission
The Bicycle Commission's goal is to make Menlo Park a bicycle-friendly community where cyclists, pedestrians and motorists thrive. The Commission will advise the Council on matters related to cycling in our City, including but not limited to:

Promoting bicycling as a safe form of recreation and transportation. |

Providing a cycling perspective to the City decision-making processes to ensure proper sensitivity to bicycle and pedestrian issues in the design and implementation of relevant public works projects. |

3. | Educating all citizens on the benefits of safe cycling, the City's cycling-related resources, and pedestrian/motorist/cyclist etiquette and regulations. |

Suggesting safe and convenient bicycle routes throughout the City, including appropriate connections to neighboring cities. |

Facilitating the continued development and maintenance of cycling facilities and resources throughout the City.

Safety Education (ongoing) Goal: Increase both kids and adults riding to school and throughout our community.
Identify current safety programs in Menlo Park schools. Identify 1-2 schools per year to conduct a safety event
Expand bicycle safety education into our community Identify 1-2 community events to participate in (Belle Haven, Burgess after school program, Ravenswood, YMCA)
Determine which schools are following Safe Routes to School (SRTS) program and reinforce use.
Determine if there are schools that should be following SRTS and are not. Help schools get back onto SRTS program

Pilot Project for SHARROWS (University, Crane, Menlo and Middle)
Identify specific locations where Sharrows would make the most difference for bicycle safety and meet MUTCD guidelines
Gain City Council / Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition (SVBC) support to help implement Sharrows in identified areas Educate the public, both motorists and cyclists, on the benefits of Sharrow use / and how to use
Exposure: Increase our presence throughout the city by becoming more involved in public outreach
Determine 1-2 city events / year to participate by providing bicycle safety education material, (Menlo Park Block Party, 4th of July Parade)
Determine alternative tools to provide education to our community, (Facebook, Twitter, Bicycle Jerseys, T shirts)
Way finding: Evaluate pilot project to determine locations to expand signage throughout our city.
Determine destinations and placement of signs throughout the entire city.

Sidewalks on Santa Cruz Ave
We will continue to work on the areas that prevented us from achieving a higher award.
This project will include the detailed design and construction of a conceptual plan for new sidewalk improvements approved by the City Council.
Meetings are the second Monday of every month at 7:00 p.m.

The Bike
Plan project will identify needs and create a comprehensive
city-wide vision for traffic and transportation facilities
for bicyclists of all ability levels.
