Reporting to the City Manager, the Office of Economic Development is committed to helping local businesses compete and thrive. Successful businesses in our community create a vibrant environment and generate retail sales tax revenue needed to support city services.

How can we assist you?

The City offers a number of services to prospective and local businesses in Menlo Park. 

Business attraction/business concierge

Staff works to identify new businesses that will enhance the Menlo Park business community and the City’s overall economic health. Our staff acts as a business concierge by helping to coordinate the efforts of other departments such as Community Development, Public Works and Community Services to assist potential businesses identify the simplest possible approval process.

Business retention

Staff regularly conducts proactive meetings with businesses to offer assistance through referrals to State and Federal programs, strategic planning for expansion approval and marketing/networking opportunities.


Staff works closely with the Finance Division to monitor various revenue sources and provides research support as well as assistance with revenue projections. In addition, our office researches public-private partnerships to enhance City revenue.

Strategic partnerships

Our office partners with a number of economic development associations, community-based organizations, the Governor’s office (GO-Biz) and other local municipalities to market Menlo Park as an attractive location for businesses. 

Reporting on economic activity

Our office provides a quarterly report to the City Council and business community on economic activity in and affecting Menlo Park. This quarterly report also provides marketing exposure for Menlo Park businesses and has resulted in positive media attention for the City.
